I was delighted to see two specimens of this lovely butterfly at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Darien, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. Apparently it was feeding on scat of some kind, though the poo resembled a tar ball….

They are having a giant wooden bug exhibition at the Botanical Gardens this fall. Here I am hoping to capture the combination of sculpture and natural setting. The wooden ant is located on the Eastern slope of the Garden Butte.
